My dear parish family,
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. The word Pentecost comes from the Greek word
Pentekoste which means fiftieth. Pentecost Sunday is celebrated fifty (50) days after Easter Sunday and it marks the end of the Easter season. At Pentecost, we commemorate the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles to enable them to carry out the mandate that Jesus had entrusted to them before his Ascension into heaven. As we celebrate Pentecost, we invite the Holy Spirit to empower us too
, as we seek to fulfill the mission of the Gospel of Jesus.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
On another note, we are urging parents and grandparents who have not yet registered their children and grandchildren for
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL to please do so as soon as possible.
VBS IS JUNE 3 - 7 and the deadline for registration is Sunday, May 26. We also are in dire need of volunteers. You can register online as a volunteer or participant on the parish website,
www.saintlaw.org/vbs or use the link in Narthex News. If you have any questions, contact Michelle Sander at
msander@saintlaw.org or 770.963.8992.
I am also inviting you to check out the third chapter of our parish history on our gallery display along the main hallway by Cogswell Hall. It contains interesting information about the growth of our community. We must always recall that our identity is grounded in our history.
God bless you and see you at Mass!
Father Henry
